KIDS NEED TO EXPRESS EFFECTIVELY

Recently, I was invited for a summer camp dance show, held by a popular dance training institute. I saw kids and teenagers perform their best. Lot of efforts go, into making the show happen, like choreography, costumes, lighting, scheduling, venue arrangements and a complete event management including resource and fund management.

All put together result in a power packed show.

The kids showed a lot of enthusiasm and were overloaded with joy to be a part of the event. Many kids were a part of singing along with the performer from Mumbai.

Dance and music go hand in hand. Actually all dance forms are the feeling of music expressed and communicated through our body movement and thus giving the abstract music a physical measurable form.

Be it an item number or a devotional, music attains a form only when performed by an artiste and we get to see it physically. In other sense, if we watch an artiste performing and the sound is mute, we can translate his or her body movements and guess what type of music is being played. Seeing someone dance to a tune, we react much more than just playing the music because we relate to the energy displayed by the performer. So in a way dance is the reaction of our senses to sound. If there is a sound of a creaking door amidst the dead silence of the night, we get startled and jerk our body, even this is one form of dramatics that is a reaction of the body to sound.

It is instinctive for us to react to every sound. Sounds help us to express and communicate. So I realized that learning dance can help us to communicate better and develop self confidence among young children especially.
In earlier days, emphasis in schools was on all round development and kids were allowed to participate in sports and cultural activities, unlike today’s corporate schools that pay more attention to ranks, marks, grades and common entrances. Somewhere, the lack of dramatics in the curriculum makes the kids more introvert and bookworms. They need to face large group of audience, perform and speak before them that lets the fear factor vanish. This also helps to overcome exam fears and nervousness.

Every kid requires a platform to express and communicate and dance, drama and music can help do that in a very friendly manner. Drama is essential to enhance, historical information, developing literary skills and improving memory. So is music too that harmonizes the learning process of whatever subject we learn. It helps in developing patience among children by soothing their nerves.

I urge every parent not to overlook the need for cultural participation of their children in their growing age. Like calcium, vitamin and minerals are essential for the growth of body; so is music, dance and drama helpful in the overall growth and personality development of a child.

So, do please pay attention to it and architect the future of your kids with all round development.
